Canadian Finance Minister Says Energy Exports Restrictions a Last Resort: Dow Jones
- Dominic LeBlanc told the CBC that federal officials would opt for a measured response to any tariffs that US President Trump would choose to apply to Canadian imports, starting as early as Saturday.
- Restricting the export of commodities to the US would be “very much a last resort, where the country has no other reasonable way to make the Americans understand” that their tariff policy is misguided.
- LeBlanc said he relayed this message to Alberta Premier Danielle Smith in a meeting Tuesday. Some politicians advocate for such a response to show the US that Ottawa means business.
