RENEWABLES: UK "Unlocks" 16GW of Offshore Wind

The UK government has unlocked up to 16GW of offshore wind capacity by removing outdated infrastructure restrictions, accelerating the approval and construction of up to 13 major projects, it said.

• This additional capacity is nearly equivalent to the country’s total gas power generation last year and is expected to drive £20-30bn in renewable investment, the government added.
• Additionally, as part of the reforms, offshore wind developers will fund new and extended Marine Protected Areas to mitigate environmental impacts, ensuring rapid expansion while protecting marine ecosystems.
• “Offshore wind will be the backbone of delivering clean power by 2030 as we enter a new era of clean electricity,” Energy Minister Michael Shanks said
