Bulgaria plans to start construction on the Vertical Gas Corridor's first section in May 2025, a project which aims to expand LNG transport capacity across Europe., Platts said.
- This corridor connects Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Moldova, and Ukraine.
- The project will increase gas capacity from 2.3 Bcm/y to 3.6 Bcm/y. It will also facilitate up to 10 Bcm/year of gas flow to Romania.
- Despite limited interest in binding capacity tests in 2024, participants remain committed.
- The corridor is deemed strategic amid geopolitical challenges, such as the Ukraine war.
