BOE: Ramsden due to speak at 13:00GMT; may not discuss monpol

Dec-09 12:54
  • BOE Deputy Governor Ramsden's speech at OMFIF will start at 13:00GMT. The text will be available here with the title "Financial stability and the Bank of England’s toolkit".
  • The speech itself is unlikely to be a market mover and has a good chance of discussing the changes to the money market framework outline in the BOE's discussion paper earlier (see BOE: Changes to money market tools including ILTR at 11:44GMT).
  • However, the Q&A will be watched for any deviation from Ramsden's view that case 2 (gradual cuts required) is the most likely with risks skewed towards case 1 (requiring faster cuts). He last spoke on 20 November so its unlikely his view on monetary policy will have changed substantially.
