Bank of France President Francois Villeroy said on Wednesday that the latest inflation data should give the ECB confidence it can cut rates again soon.
"We are winning the battle against inflation; inflation in the euro area has fallen to 2.2%. This can give us more confidence to cut interest rates again soon,” Villeroy said in comments to French regional newspaper Midi Libre, Villeroy said.
The comment comes as the U.S. prepares to announce its 'Liberation Day' package of tariffs and amid market speculation as to whether the ECB will cut rates by another 25 basis points or take a pause. (See MNI SOURCES: ECB Still Set For 2% Deposit Rate As Yields Surge)
