Monday 17 February:

• Ukraine: French President Emmanuel Macron hosts an emergency summit of European leaders set to discuss defence policy and the war in Ukraine with a particular focus on any possible ceasefire. The short-notice summit comes after it was confirmed that European countries would be excluded from this round of talks between US and Russian officials set to take place in Saudi Arabia on 18 February. The leaders of Denmark, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain and the United Kingdom, as well as officials from the European Council and Commission, and NATO, are set to join Macron in the afternoon.
