• Seven projects will be awarded this year with the remainder in 2026. The goal is to increase Peru agricultural exports to USD45bn from the current USD13bn, according to Angel Manero minister of agrarian development and irrigation and Finance Minister Jose Salardi, reported by El Comercio.
• Public-private partnerships will be utilized for more than 85% of the projects. Among the top initiatives would be a USD7bn project to divert the Amazon River Maranon to provide water for the region. Other projects include a hydroelectric power plant, a dam and irrigation systems.
• The construction of a dam will help provide water during dry seasons and allow for a full year production of key food commodities such as blueberries, grapes and avocados, according to Minister Manero. This expansion also seeks to boost production of cotton and sugarcane.
