NATGAS: Russia Strikes On Ukraine Gas Infrastructure Creating Pressure

Russian strikes on Ukrainian gas infrastructure creating ‘certain pressure’ and the nation will need help from partners to import additional volumes of gas - Ukrainian Deputy Energy Minister. 

  • Ukraine has faced increased strikes on its gas infrastructure in recent weeks.
  • Naftogaz facilities were struck on Tuesday in the Poltava region in the latest strikes.
  • Russian missile attacks on Ukrainian gas infrastructure are forcing the country towards costly European gas imports to replace the flows.
  • Ukraine’s gas storage has fallen to very low levels and Ukraine will increase gas imports by a third on Wednesday to 22.6 million cubic meters transmission system data shows.
  • The gas appears to come from Hungary, Slovakia, and Poland. Slovakia has threatened to cut flows over discontent for the end of Ukraine transit at the end of last year.
  • Last week, Bloomberg sources said that Naftogaz production was impaired by around a third from strikes without offering a timeframe.
