The East Energy vessel, which last year exported LNG from Russia’s Arctic LNG 2 plant, is nearing Shanghai, Bloomberg said.
- The facility was sanctioned by the US last year.
- If the vessel, which was also sanctioned by the US last year, docks in China, it will be the first time one of Russia’s dark fleet LNG tankers lands at a foreign port.
- Dark fleet LNG shipments have failed to find buyers willing to circumvent US restrictions. Consequently, they are opting to put keep their LNG volumes in Russian storage units.
- Bloomberg said that it isn’t clear if the vessel is laden with a cargo, as it recently stopped at the Koryak floating storage unit in Kamchatka in February.
