As part of a wide-ranging interview with Time Magazine, US President Donald Trump says that he would be open to meeting with either President Masoud Pezeshkian and/or Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as part of efforts to reach a nuclear deal with Iran. On the prospect of Israel launching an attack on Iran's nuclear sites if a deal cannot be reached, Trump said "I think we can make a deal without the attack. I hope we can. It's possible we'll have to attack because Iran will not have a nuclear weapon."
- Trump says Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu "may go into a war" but that "we're not getting dragged in." Asked if the US would stay out of any such conflict Trump says "No, I didn’t say that. You asked if he’d drag me in, like I’d go in unwillingly. No, I may go in very willingly if we can't get a deal. If we don't make a deal, I'll be leading the pack."
- Another round of talks gets underway in Oman on 26 April, this time between working groups from Iran and the US, rather than the senior-level meetings that have taken place over the past two weeks in Muscat and Rome, respectively (see 'IRAN: Axios-Foreign Min Proposed Interim Deal To US Envoy', 1558BST 24 Apr).
- Speaking in the Oval Office on 24 April alongside Norwegian PM Jonas Gahr Store, Trump said talks were progressing "very well on an agreement with Iran," adding, "we're doing a lot of things, I will say—but that one is well on its way. We could have a very, very good decision, and a lot of lives will be saved."
